"Welcome to our production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. As we delve into this dark tale of vengeance and its consuming grip on the human soul, we are reminded of the power of storytelling to illuminate the darkest corners of our humanity."

So began the director's notes for this year's Spring Musical. For the closing production of the 2023–2024 Theater Arts season, director Margot Fitzsimmons challenged cast and crew to tackle Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award–winning work. Undaunted by the sophisticated plot, psychologically complex characters, and dark humor—not to mention an epic score!—our Middle and Upper School talents delivered a thrilling performance with an urgent message. As Ms. Fitz explained, "Through Sweeney’s descent into madness, we confront the dangers of unchecked revenge, while also recognizing the redemptive potential inherent in bearing witness to his tragic journey."

She continued, "As theater artists, we have the privilege and responsibility to shape the narrative in a way that not only captivates but also provokes thought and introspection. Thank you for joining us on this journey into the heart of darkness, where storytelling becomes a beacon of hope in the shadows."
