Laser Cutter Joins Growing Maker Space

Laser Cutter Joins Growing Maker Space
Westmark Staff

It’s here! Announcing the arrival of a brand-new, state-of-the-art laser cutter. Ready to use in our Middle and Upper School multimedia maker space, this powerful tool adds to our ever-expanding STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) program, opening up exciting possibilities for creativity and learning.

Laser cutters—known for their precision and versatility—enable students to bring their ideas to life by cutting, etching, and engraving materials like wood, acrylic, and fabric. Whether prototyping a product, designing custom jewelry, creating detailed architectural models, or adding intricate detail to class projects, our new laser cutter will encourage students to experiment, iterate, and innovate.

The laser cutter complements our existing 3D printers and expands Westmark’s curriculum around design. Students can now pursue projects that integrate multiple tools and techniques, developing advanced skills in digital design, engineering thinking, and problem-solving. These are real-world, future-ready skills that students can begin mastering here at Westmark.

This important addition to our maker space was made possible by the generous gift of a Middle School grandfather, whose belief in the power of hands-on innovation inspired his generous in-kind donation. We are deeply grateful for his support, and we are excited to see how our students bring exciting, never-before-possible ideas to life in the months and years ahead.
