Boston College Trip 2015
In November, College Counselor, Ms. Gibson, along with Mr. Dramitinos,Mr. Jimenez, Ms. O'Connor and twenty-three Westmark students headed East to get a taste of college life.
Westmark's college trips are designed to provide students with a broad view of different types of colleges.
What better place to visit than Boston,
the quintessential university town?
Students toured Northeastern, Boston University, the performing arts program at Emerson, and Suffolk University. In nearby Cambridge, Lesley University's tour guides explained the college's experiential learning model while leading students through the Victorian style dorms and newly acquired arts complex. During a day trip to the outskirts of the city, students met with the directors of academic support at Curry College and Mt. Ida to discuss how structured support programs can aid in the transition to college. Tours kept students active, but there was still time to enjoy Boston. Highlights were dinner in Little Italy and a walk through the fall leaves in Boston Commons. Most importantly though, students experienced what colleges can offer -- everything from internships to living learning communities -- and came back with a stronger sense of what to look for as they begin to explore their best fit colleges.
