MY CHILD WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH A LEARNING DISABILITY…WHAT DO I DO?
This is the beginning of a new journey, one that is filled with many wonderful opportunities for your student. It is important for you to become your child’s strongest advocate. Learn all you can about your child’s specific learning challenge. Connect with your child’s doctor, ed therapist, teachers and other professionals to find out about options and resources available to you.
I’D LIKE TO GET MY CHILD FORMALLY ASSESSED AND TESTED. CAN WESTMARK HELP ME?
Yes, contact our Director of Admissions, Cindy Goodman at 818.986.5045 and she will provide you with a list of referrals for testing.
DOES WESTMARK OFFER TUITION ASSISTANCE?
Westmark School does offer tuition assistance to eligible families. Our program is need-based and requires that the family complete our online FAST application to determine eligibility. Our assistance program does not cover the full cost of tuition.
IS WESTMARK A NONPUBLIC SCHOOL (NPS)?
As an independent private school, Westmark does not qualify for NPS funding.
WE LIVE OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES…CAN MY CHILD STILL ATTEND?
Yes! Westmark families come from over 65+ area and zip codes throughout the greater Los Angeles area. We offer bus transportation that covers most areas and are always happy to connect you with other Westmark families for carpooling.
WHAT IS WESTMARK’S HOMEWORK POLICY?
Homework is directly related to grade level. We build homework supports into our curriculum via daily Homeroom and Study Skills periods to accommodate homework questions and offer help that is needed.
WHAT READING REMEDIATION PROGRAMS DOES WESTMARK USE?
Students receive an intensive reading assessment to determine appropriate placement in the reading class that best fits their current needs. Westmark School uses several research-based and multisensory programs that stimulate and develop concept and symbol imagery. Our highly-trained teachers work to develop targeted skills in decoding, language comprehension, and fluency.
TELL ME ABOUT THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS?
Parents or guardians should schedule and participate in a tour during a regular school day, prior to completing and submitting an online application. When submitting the application, all requested paperwork (including current school and/or other professional recommendations are required. Student applicants should then visit campus for an interview and two-day shadow visit. After the required visits are complete, the Admissions Committee will review each applicant to determine if Westmark is the right fit for each student.
DOES WESTMARK PROVIDE A SUMMER PROGRAM?
Westmark’s summer academic program, Summer S.M.A.R.T.S., is REQUIRED for all new students. Enrollment is for 4 hours from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. each day for four weeks, and includes reading, writing, math and one electives course. Each subsequent year, the summer enrollment requirements will be based on student’s need and performance.
Bus transportation is not available during the summer months, however, Westmark will help families arrange carpools as necessary.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY TUITION?
Westmark’s tuition covers all expenses except Athletics uniforms, PE uniforms, and optional trips (8th grade Washington DC, Spring Trip; 11th and 12th grades international trip).
Families are also expected to make an annual contribution to the school Annual Fund.
