College Counseling

In 11th and 12th grade, Westmark families begin the process of identifying and evaluating choices for higher education and post secondary options after graduation. Westmark provides a comprehensive program to assist in this effort.

Westmark's college consultant reviews transcripts, test scores and current testing documentation to assist students and parents with educational decisions. She meets individually with parents and students in 11th and 12th grade to inform them about the college process and financial aid. Students and families are assisted in the following areas: preparing brag sheets, accommodations, structuring the interview, self-advocacy, students' responsibilities in preparing for college and questions students should ask when deciding on a college, resource booklets and handouts in all areas of college admissions are made available.

Field trips are arranged to local community colleges and to the annual college fair in Pasadena. Several colleges and their representatives visit Westmark every fall to speak to our students.

The Westmark consultant is also available to offer guidance and information regarding career options, technical schools and career colleges that will lead to professions in the dramatic arts, culinary field, media arts and film and television. Our seniors consider choices and develop firm plans for their lives after graduation.
