Westmark is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), and is accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Westmark School is fully accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), having been granted CAIS' maximum full six-year term of accreditation. Westmark was among one of the first independent special education schools to be granted this accreditation from CAIS.
In addition to the six-year term, the accreditation also carries with it a three-year on-site interim review as well as a continued membership in CAIS through June 2019, when the accreditation term expires.
Historically, CAIS by-laws mandated that its accredited schools use ERB (Educational Records Bureau) assessment testing. Many special education institutions use other assessment tests to better accommodate their students’ learning profiles. Westmark School was one of the leaders in influencing CAIS to change its by-laws, allowing other forms of standardized testing to be included in the accreditation process. Membership in CAIS confers a publicly acknowledged credibility regarding the high quality of the educational program and the ethical integrity of each member school. In order to evaluate both member and applicant schools, the Association has worked to maintain clear and demanding standards, as well as an accreditation process with an ongoing focus on educational excellence and institutional health.
